In its original dust jacket. Original publisher’s cloth, gilt lettering. Near fine or better condition. No inscriptions, end papers clean and bright as is the entire block. No spotting at all. Excepting only the slightest discolouration to jacket spine this is a fine copy. Jacket unclipped.
The Comedians is principally a novel of character. Each of the leading characters reveals a new facet of personality. The protagonist, Brown, the hotelier, Smith the innocent American, and Jones the confidence man— these are the “comedians” of Greene’s title. Hiding behind their actors’ masks, they hesitate on the edge of life.
Greene acquired a reputation early in his lifetime as a major writer and was shortlisted for the Nobel Prize in Literature several times.
